Metals in the marine environment threaten aquatic animals and their upper trophic level predators, as they not only jeopardize their well-being but accumulate in their tissues, posing potential health risks. The present study focused on sampling Eledone moschata, Octopus vulgaris, and Illex coindetii from the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean Seas. The study aimed to assess the accumulation levels of aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) in the mantle, gill, and hepatopancreas tissues. Significant variations in metal accumulation levels were observed depending on the sampled station and tissues. Iron, copper, and zinc exhibited the highest concentrations in the tissues, whereas nickel and cadmium showed the lowest concentrations. The mantle exhibited the lowest metal concentration, whereas the hepatopancreas showed the highest concentration among the studied tissues. Furthermore, a health risk analysis was conducted using the Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) and lifetime cancer risk (CR) assessments. The analysis results indicated no significant health risk associated with the consumption of the studied species from the Marmara Sea, Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.

In this study, the length-weight data for bluespotted cornetfish, Fistularia commersonii in the Iskenderun Bay (NE Mediterranean Sea, Türkiye) was reported. F. commersonii specimens were caught from Iskenderun Bay between September 2018 and March 2019. The total length and total weight of both sexes varied from 23.0-108.1 cm and 4.0-599.58 g. The length-weight relationship was determined as W= 0.0005xL2.963 (R2= 0.969) with negative allometric growth for both sexes. The values of the exponent b of the length-weight relationships (LWRs) were 2.993 for females and 2.925 for males. This present study provides the first comprehensive gender-based description of the length-weight relationships of F. commersonii from the northeastern Mediterranean Sea, Türkiye; Bu çalışmada, İskenderun Körfezi'ndeki (KD Akdeniz, Türkiye) külah balığı, Fistularia commersonii Rüppell 1835 için uzunluk-ağırlık verileri rapor edilmektedir.

In this study, it was aimed to analyses some growth parameters of the invasive Diadema setosum (Leske, 1778) from Iskenderun Bay. For this reason, a total of 117 samples were collected in September 2021 from rocky shores coast of Iskenderun. The test diameter in D. setosum was varied between 24.32 and 81.1 mm with an average of 51.8±1.18 mm in length. The total weight was changed between 27.14 and 185.11 g, and the average total weight was 84.64±2.77 g. The length-weight relationship of D. setosum was W = 0.7917*L1.1773. The value of regression co-efficient (R2) estimated for the species was 0.71. Gonadosomatic indexes (GSI) was determined as 3.4±0.04%, 8.91±0.09%, and 7.50±0.14%, in GSI1, GSI2, and GSI3, respectively. This study is the first detailed study on the length-weight relationships (LWRs), length-weight frequency and gonadosomatic indexes of the invasive sea urchin (D. setosum) from İskenderun Bay, Northeastern Mediterranean.; Bu çalışmada, İskenderun Körfezi kıyılarındaki istilacı Diadema setosum türünün (Leske, 1778) bazı biyolojik parametrelerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.

The genetic structure of round sardinella Sardinella aurita populations sampled from the eastern Mediterranean, Iskenderun, Mersin, and Antalya Bays, was examined through cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) sequencing of mtDNA. A total of 32 haplotypes was obtained from COI sequences, and the mean haplotype diversity was found to be 0.7917. The highest nucleotide diversity was observed in the Antalya population (0.0187), while the lowest was in the Mersin population (0.0093). The highest genetic divergence was detected between Iskenderun and Antalya populations (0.0168), whereas the lowest was between Iskenderun and Mersin populations (0.0119). Pairwise comparisons of genetic distance showed that the Iskenderun population statistically differed from the other populations (p < 0.05). The Neighbor–Joining tree revealed that the Mersin and Antalya populations were grouped as the nearest, while the Iskenderun population differed far from these populations. The present investigation revealed the first information on the genetic structure of S. aurita, which may be useful for the perspective of fisheries management.
