dc.description.abstractApricot is one of the important fruit that can be grown in many parts of the world. The apricots are dried in the sun or by treatment with sulfur to prolong the storage time. In many European countries and in our country, the amount of sulfur required in dried apricots is 2000mg/L and this amount is likely to drop down. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of feeding with high and low sulfur bearing apricot on serum oxidative stress parameters. In total, 84 Wistar albino rats were fed for 12 weeks with dried apricots containing different amounts of sulfur or sun-dried apricots. Serum total antioxidant level, total oxidant level, malondialdehyde and glutathione levels of the rats were measured. The highest total antioxidant level was observed in the group fed with sun dried apricot, while the lowest total antioxidant level was observed in the 3000 mg/L group. Malondialdehyde levels increased only in 1000 mg/L group, while glutathione levels were significantly increased in 1000 mg/L, 2000 mg/L and 3000 mg/L groups.en_US
